Augmentin Description
Augmentin (Amoxicillin And Clavulanate Potassium)
Common use
Augmentin belongs to the group of broad-spectrum antibiotics. Such antibiotic works destroying bacteria. The medicine is prescribed for treatment of pneumonia and other infectious diseases of respiratory, gastrointestinal systems, urogenital systems, infections which appear after surgery and others. Its component Clavulanate potassium provides resistance of Augmentin to activity of bacterial beta-lactamases.

Precautions
You shouldn't use the medicine if you have allergy to penicillin antibiotics, have liver or kidney failure or mononucleosis.
Contraindications
Patients with allergic reaction to Augmentin or to another penicillin antibiotics, infectious mononucleosis, a history of liver problems or yellowing of the eyes or skin caused by Augmentin can't used the medicine.
Possible side effect
Side effects can be the following: dyspepsia, abdominal discomfort, bloating, gas, nausea, vomiting, liver function disorders, hepatitis, jaundice caused by stagnation of bile, vaginal itching and also symptoms of allergy.
Drug interaction
Augmentin can interact with other antibiotics changing the normal bacteria flora of the colon and permitting overgrowth of C. difficile, a bacteria which causes pseudomembranous colitis.
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time of the next intake just skip it and go back to your schedule.
Overdose
If you think you have overdosed the medicine seek emergency medical help immediately. The overdose symptoms are nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, skin rash, drowsiness, and hyperactivity.
Storage
Store the medicine at room temperature of 59-86F (15-30C) away from light and moisture.
